I couldn’t imagine a better way of starting off the new year, than communing with friends over brunch on a Sunday morning, so
this past Sunday I invited friends out for some sharing food & conversation at the Thai Buddhist temple in Berkeley, Wat Mongkolratanaram .

It's such a fun experience, exchanging your bills for handfuls of Thai tokens, and then you stand in one of the many food lines and exchange them in for Thai deliciousness. The place is packed with pe [...]

Not to be stifled by the norms of what makes a proper holiday cookie, friends pulled out all the stops to make holiday cookies that epitomize their nonconformist views. Without further ado, here are some pictures from my recent cookie backing party:

<img src="http://www.nifnaks.com/images/ [...]

New Decor from my buddies at Social Studies

I was so thrilled to receive my new dining room wall décor today that I ordered from Sean & Aldo over at Social Studies Design . Last time I saw them at the San Francisco holiday edition Bizarre Bazaar , I was drawn the vinyl puffy Christmas ornaments. I immediately knew they’d make the perfect compliment to the Blik wall decals I had put up on my plain white dining room walls a while back:

<img src="http://www.nifnaks.com/images/blog_imgs//0902SSvinyls-1.jpg" border=" [...]

Mission Bazaar Wrap-up

Still warming up from one of the coldest craft fairs I think I’ve done to date. Hot soup was a staple of mine this past weekend at Mission Bazaar . Thankfully, this meant April & I could wear NifNaks neck scarves enthusiastically. Mmm, silky-soft & warm merino wool.

Luckily the fellow vendors and the visitors were warm and amiable people.
There is bacon in my dryer

Yes, that's right, I put bacon IN my dryer. Every year, a couple of friends of mine throw a celebration of that salty, protein-rich staple, bacon. To honor my hosts for this bacon extravaganza known as Bacon Fest, I decided to make them each a lapel pin made in the image of this salty snack…. out of wool, of course.

Satiated my Critter Craving

My favorite part of going on vacation is petting, and chasing, and biting the various critters I encounter. I’m back from the rural lands of Ohio, and I must confirm that my need to run and play with critters has been quite satisfied.
Squeaky Toy!

Last night my mom and I made dog toys made from the de-squeaked toys that the family schnauzer had recently mauled. Felting a new dog toy was just the answer for chewy-chewer. If felted tightly enough, there was little chance for the rambunctious puppy-at-heart would be able to chew through very easily.

First lightly needle-felting some ecru around the squeaker, we then added wool of various colors to create the soon-to-be Mr. Happy.

<img src="http://www.nifnaks.com/ima [...]

Late summer evenings walking down the creaky wooden stairs, I’d be stricken with the pungent scent of fermenting berries or other fruit. The huge 5-gallon glass jars filled with must, slowly bubbled gasses through the str [...]

I’ve been out here visiting my folks for only a day, and already I’ve found some cool things to snap. I thought that this old house and barn in rural Ohio, was the quintessential country building.

Tentacled Lock of Love

For my partner’s recent birthday, I made a fun-colored U-lock cozy for his bike. When first inspired by this notion, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to go for something more anthropomorphic, or abstract for new bike accessory. Luckily, he’s not one of those guys that shirks at the idea of owning something cutesy, so I didn’t have that as a limitating factor. Experimenting with several ideas, I finally decided on the abstract.

One of his favorite sayings is, &ldquo [...]

Just thought I’d announce that I’m back from the Nevada desert. I had a whirlwind 36 hours up there with some memorable and epic journeys to boot.

Post return, I found this fantastic photo of Jamie, aka DJ Chiral, donning an intense apocalyptic steampunk look:

If you are a NifNaks wool dread customer, I’d love to see some dusty pictur [...]
